At the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Consortium of African Funds for the Environment (CAFÉ), in Kinshasa, DRC, Chakwetu was unanimously approved as the newest member of this important network of conservation funds.
Chakwetu joins two important Tanzanian long-standing members of CAFÉ, the Eastern Arc Mountains Conservation Endowment Fund (EAMCEF), whose Executive Director, Francis Sabuni, serves as a Chakwetu Trustee, and the Tanzania Forest Fund (Mfuko wa Misitu Tanzania) whose CEO, Dr. Tuli Salum Msuya, serves on the CAFÉ Executive Committee.
Dr. Martin Kijazi, Chakwetu CEO said “This marks the beginning of us building collaborative partnerships with CAFE members across the continent – and with CAFE Partners around the globe.” As a member of CAFÉ, Chakwetu has access to global best practices for conservation trust fund management, including the resources of the Conservation Finance Alliance.
“Our mission is to serve as a catalyst for mobilizing long-term sustainable financing for the conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of natural resources, mitigation of and adaptation to climate change challenges and the relief of distress to the public due to pressure on critical ecosystems and landscapes in Tanzania or otherwise affecting the people of Tanzania”
