Who we are
Chakwetu is the Tanzania Environmental Sustainability Trust, an independent, non-profit institution established to mobilise sustainable, long-term financing for conservation and climate resilience.
The Trust was incorporated in March 2024 as The Registered Trustees of the Tanzania Environmental Sustainability Trust, under Tanzania’s Trustees Incorporation Act.

OUR VISION
People and nature,
in harmony.
A Tanzania where people live in harmony with the natural environment, economic development is sustainable, and the country’s unique biodiversity is safeguarded for present and future generations.
OUR MISSION
Finance that lasts.
Conservation that endures.
To mobilise long-term sustainable financing for biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and communities affected by pressures on critical ecosystems and landscapes.
GOVERNANCE
Stewardship you can trust.
A multi-sector Board of Trustees guides the Trust’s strategic direction, plans, policies, and major grants. Its members bring expertise from civil society, academia, business, and government.
An Audit Committee supports financial integrity and independent external audits. Day-to-day operations are entrusted to the Chief Executive Officer and Secretariat.

A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
A future worth
investing in.
Let’s work together for Tanzania’s biodiversity, resilient communities, and generations to come.
